Anointing of the Sick

In times of lengthy illness, it is very important that the Anointing of the Sick not be delayed until the final stages.   If at all possible, the sacrament should be requested as soon as possible after the discovery of the ailment.   If at all possible, it should also be arranged that family members and friends be present when the sacrament is taking place.

We encourage any member of Holy Angels who would like to receive, or knows of someone who needs to receive this sacrament, to please call the Parish Office at (626) 447-1671 to make an appointment with one of our priests.

The introduction to the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick states that "through the Apostle James, [Christ] has commanded us:  'Are there any sick among you? Let them send for the priests of the Church, and let the priests pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick persons, and the Lord will raise them up; and if they have committed any sins, their sins will be forgiven them.'"

Our faith tells us that suffering and illness are part of the human condition and should not necessarily be regarded as punishment for personal sin (John 9: 1-3).   We also believe that these tragic situations do not have to be meaningless. For Christ himself, who is without sin, suffered and died so that we might live. We believe that illness and suffering can have meaning when united with the community of the Church and the passion of Christ.

Those who are suffering illness should seek the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, so that their faith and hope might be strengthened and restored. "This sacrament gives the grace of the Holy Spirit to those who are sick; by this grace the whole person is helped and saved, sustained by trust in God, and strengthened against the temptations of the Evil One and against anxiety over death.  The sick person is able not only to bear suffering bravely, but also to fight against it." (Pastoral Care of the Sick, pg. 20)

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby! We are happy to help you celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism for the newest member of your family and to welcome your child into the Christian community! Baptisms are held in the church on the First Sunday of each month at 1:00 p.m. by appointment only. Registration and catechesis are prerequisites. Baptism classes are usually held at Holy Angels Church on the first Saturday of the month. Parents and godparents must pre-register for the class.

For information regarding infant baptisms, and to sign up for the preparation classes, please call the Parish Office at (626) 447-1671. For information regarding baptism for an older child, please call the Religious Education Office at (626) 446-2804 to speak to Norma Murasko.

For youth of high school age, please call the Holy Angels Youth Office at (626) 446-0979 for more information.   See also the Youth page on this website. For adults, please call the Christian Initiation Office at (626) 446-2804 for more information.

Confirmation completes the initiation process begun at Baptism.  It affirms those confirmed as believers continuing their lifelong journey of faith and service to the community.  Its purpose is to confirm faith in, acceptance of, and hope in Jesus Christ, person, God, Savior, and Redeemer.

The goals of Confirmation are:

  1. to foster, in the confirmed, faith in Jesus as Lord, through Scripture, prayer, and life experience;

  2. to invite the confirmed to fully participate in the traditions of the Catholic community both through the development of one's community, and through worship;

  3. to empower the confirmed to adopt a lifestyle of service in God's Kingdom of justice and peace.

First Eucharist

For children and youth, please call the Religious Education Office at (626) 445-2967 for more information. For adults, please call the Christian Initiation Office at (626) 446-2804 for more information.

This initiation sacrament is the source and summit of the Christian life.   The Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ received at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  The Eucharist nourishes the life of grace within, deepens our union with Christ, and increases our love of others and our willingness to share the Gospel message.

Please contact the Parish Office at (626) 447-1671 to schedule a funeral.  A specially-trained Bereavement Minister will meet with family members to offer emotional support, and to help plan the funeral liturgy here at Holy Angels.

Congratulations on your engagement!  A wedding is one of those rare moments in life when you gather with all the people you cherish and, in doing so, express what it means to be in love.  Consequently, your marriage is much more than the exchange of vows and rings.  It is a sacramental union ritualized with symbols, music, family, friends, and the rich traditions of the Church.

One party must be a baptized Catholic, registered at Holy Angels for a minimum of six months before reserving a wedding date, and should also be attending weekly Mass at Holy Angels.

Before any plans are made, couples must make arrangements through one of our priests at least six months prior to their proposed wedding day.  Please call the Parish Office at (626) 447-1671 to make an appointment with one of our priests.   No wedding date will be reserved until the couple has met with one of our priests.

Your priest will give you important information about marriage preparation programs, wedding procedures, and requirements.   He will be happy to answer any questions you may have.  Be sure to call and make this appointment as soon as possible!   We want to assist you as you prepare for one of the most wonderful experiences of human life: celebrating your love in marriage and God's presence in your lives.

We speak of marriage as a Sacrament.  Our faith tells us, "God is Love."  By your being in love, God dwells with you.  We believe that the love you share in marriage is a sign to all of the presence of God in your union as a married couple.

Schedule of Confessions

In addition to the schedule above, during the seasons of Advent and Lent, we also gather as a community for Communal Reconciliation services with individual confessions.

Please check the church bulletin for announcements of these events.
