Wildlife Victim Emergency Relief Fund
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has established a Wildfire Victims Emergency Relief Fund to provide grants for food, clothing, and other essential needs for those affected by the recent wildfires. If you would like to help our brothers and sisters suffering from the fires, please consider contributing to the Emergency Relief Fund. You can use the special envelopes provided for this purpose or donate directly online.
Requests for assistance will be made through the parishes, and the funds will be provided as a one-time grant to those in need. Your support is greatly appreciated and will make a significant difference in the lives of those who have lost so much through these devastating events.
Let us continue to offer our prayers for all who have been impacted by the wildfires, as well as for the first responders and volunteers who are on the front lines. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Clergy Community Coalition and the Faith Collaborative to End Homelessness are coordinating volunteers and relief efforts across Altadena/Pasadena faith communities and partners. They are in need of volunteers to support these relief efforts across the region. Please sign up to lend a hand. You may be asked to help various organizations in the area as opportunities become available.
Holy Angels Impacted by High Winds
First and foremost, let us keep everyone in our prayers—those who have lost their homes, those who have evacuated, and all of us near the fires and affected in one way or another. Let's keep the first responders and everyone looking after our safety in our prayers; may they be blessed with strength and protection as they selflessly serve our community.
We thank God that Holy Angels has not been affected by the fire, though we have faced high winds. On Tuesday night, unprecedented winds took down a loquat tree, a potted ficus tree, and branches from an olive tree, disrupted power in the church for a day on Wednesday, detached some church roof tiles, and created a lot of tree debris.
Fortunately, our dedicated landscaper prioritized Holy Angels by removing the loquat and ficus trees and most of the tree debris. Given the time pressure, we had volunteers helping, including Jackson from La Salle High, Abraham from Cal Poly Pomona, Raymond, and our groundskeeper, Pepe. We are grateful that the school and parish are now clean from the tree debris, fallen trees, and branches.
The World Central Kitchen happened to be passing by with a car full of sandwiches. When they saw our volunteers hard at work, they generously handed out two sandwiches, bottled water, and an apple to each person. This thoughtful gesture brought joy and a much-needed break to everyone.
Let us continue to keep each other in prayer. May Mary, Mother of God, protect us under your mantle. Amen.
